Six Ugandans Arrested for Attacking Bangalore Policemen


Bangalore, Jul 23 (IANS): Six Ugandan college students, including three women, were arrested in Bangalore early Saturday for attacking four policemen, police said.

The incident occurred in the city's northeast suburb of Sampighalli, Inspector K. Nanjunde Gowda told IANS.

"The accused were arrested in the wee hours for attacking our patrolling squad when they were asked to stop their vehicle, which was moving in a suspicious manner," he said.

The accused, in their early twenties, are college students here and were drunk, he said.

The accused were identified as Rony, Brian, Hussain, Diana, Anjal and Mary. They were arrested and taken into custody under sections 353 and 333 of the Indian Penal Code for attacking and obstructing public servants from doing their job, Gowda said.

Of the four policemen who were attacked by the accused with sticks and stones, two had to be admitted to a hospital for severe injuries, he said.

"The accused will be produced in a city court later in the day," Gowda added.
