Mangalore: Piqued MCC Labourers Go Semi-naked

Mangalore, Jul 20: Temporary staff and Class IV employees of the Mangalore City Corporation's health department took out a semi-naked procession from Tagore Park to the deputy commissioner's office to register their protest on Wednesday July 20 afternoon.

Daily waged civic workers working in health department of Mangalore City Corporation(MCC) were annoyed as the state Government did not make them permanent and did not fulfil their basic needs.



The protestors alleged that despite carrying out protest several times, the state Government did show any concern to make them permanent hence they have no job security. Some have been working for more than 15 years and also they are old aged, they said.

The protestors finished their daily works early to avoid hindrance to their job and gathered in Tagore Park at 12pm. Later they carried out a procession till DC’s office and submitted an appeal addressed to the state Government.  From there they went to MCC and submitted an appeal to the Commissioner addressed to the state government.

Their demands included making the jobs permanent  of employees who have served for more than 10 years, free medical card for MCC civic workers, MCC to sponsor money for the educational expenditure of their children, and to stop harassment from health inspectors in health department.

Leaders K Suresh, chief secretary, Gangadhar, president,and Sesappa, joint secretary of the union among others were present.

    I salute you people who do the job none of us do even in our homes , we make the servants do it , clean our waste , and we look down upon them .. GOVT please give maximum bebefits to thses people .. what is the use of talking about development hwen the city is not clean , foulsmell n mosquito free??? what the use of talking about Global warming when the people who do this at grass root level are not rewarded , we citizens should also support them because they provide us with fresh and clean air ...

    Give it to the private contracting system,there will be better services for them and Mangalore will become more clean.If you make them government employees then things go worst.Give them more perks and facilities is acceptable.

    Really they’re hard workers…….This is shame on the government department who is responsible for this issue………..definitely they are eligible and accurate to ask the requirement …………. the facility need to be implemented as soon as possible by related department without wasting further time…………

    These are eye-opening events to
    alert the public and the world about the suffering people of the
    society. We see on a daily basis,
    the affluent lifestyle of the
    rich, political rallies etc, but
    this is opening another secret
    chapter of the society. I hope and pray that the
    government of Karnataka will
    take immediate actions to solve
    their problem because it is a
    very desperate problem.

    It is sad to hear that after serving 10-15 years of service still these workers are on temporary basis without any service benefit. Whereas our polticans,ministers, M.L.A./M.P. even if they serve for a short period they are eligible for all the benefits. It is right time that these elected representatives should be put on temeporaray basis to eligible for the benefits.

    These labourers work hard cleaning the drainage n cleaning the waste bin of all the people of mangalore n doing the hard work,should be rewarded for thier hard work.I have seen some of my ex-classmates parents n now some of them work for civiv authority.Some of the children are really good in studies.They all deserve a good treatment from any govt who is in power.They should be given free counselling too.common people like us will not do this job.Only when some people go to work in gulf countries do any odd job.But these labourers should be paid for their dues.

    Even if you remove your pant also, government is not bothered...which ever the government either central or state unless the court direction it is better to approach the court if you are eligible as per law.

    Very well done. Protests should be like this. In western countrys they do the same. Poor gys always risking their life. They should be made permanent.
