Mangalore: Piqued MCC Labourers Go Semi-naked

Mangalore, Jul 20: Temporary staff and Class IV employees of the Mangalore City Corporation's health department took out a semi-naked procession from Tagore Park to the deputy commissioner's office to register their protest on Wednesday July 20 afternoon.
Daily waged civic workers working in health department of Mangalore City Corporation(MCC) were annoyed as the state Government did not make them permanent and did not fulfil their basic needs.
The protestors alleged that despite carrying out protest several times, the state Government did show any concern to make them permanent hence they have no job security. Some have been working for more than 15 years and also they are old aged, they said.
The protestors finished their daily works early to avoid hindrance to their job and gathered in Tagore Park at 12pm. Later they carried out a procession till DC’s office and submitted an appeal addressed to the state Government. From there they went to MCC and submitted an appeal to the Commissioner addressed to the state government.
Their demands included making the jobs permanent of employees who have served for more than 10 years, free medical card for MCC civic workers, MCC to sponsor money for the educational expenditure of their children, and to stop harassment from health inspectors in health department.
Leaders K Suresh, chief secretary, Gangadhar, president,and Sesappa, joint secretary of the union among others were present.
