Udupi: Blood Donation Camp held at SMVITM

Udupi. Jun 16: As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, National Service Scheme (NSS), Youth Red Cross Wing and NCC Unit of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management, Bantakal, Udupi, Kasturba Hospital Blood Centre, Manipal jointly organized one-day Voluntary Blood Donation Camp on June 15 in the institute premises.

Dr Deepika, associate professor, department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion at KMC Manipal inaugurated the camp by lighting the lamp and delivered the inaugural address stating the importance of blood donor day and encouraging the donors for their selfless donation of blood for the right cause in saving the lives of people. Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, principal delivered the presidential remarks and mentioned that there will be a continuous support from the institute to this noble cause and appreciated the students and staff for their selfless act of blood donation to the serve society and make a significant difference in someone’s life. He thanked NSS and NCC Unit of SMVITM for arranging the blood donation camp and urged the coordinators of NSS and NCC to conduct the same twice every year.

Dr Ganesh Aithal, vice principal, SMVITM, Bantakal; Nagaraja Rao NSS-YRC Unit coordinator; Karthik V, NCC coordinator departmental coordinators, dean, HODs, faculty, staff, office bearers and members of NSS-YRC Unit and NCC Unit were present during the inaugural function.

Darshanraj, third year CSE invoked the blessings from the almighty. Chandana of third year CSE welcomed the gathering and compeered the programme Vishrutha of first year proposed vote of thanks. More than 100 volunteers, including faculty, staff and students of SMVITM and public had donated blood and with a total of 95 units of blood collected at the camp.
