Kundapur, Jun 10: Linga Mudrike stones have been found near Nagajji Mane and Buddu Devadiga’s house at Kalihitlu under Gujjadi grama panchayat.
There are inscriptions of sun, moon and Shivling on the stone. The message seems to say let it be immortal till sun and moon are there.
In olden days it was common for Hindu Shaivaites to worship Lord Shiva, Vaishnavites Lord Vishnu and Jain to worship Theerthankaras. They used to mark their borders by shrines or stones. Shivaites used to put Linga Mudrike stones, Vaishnavites Vamana Mudrike stone and Jains Mukkode stones.
The stone that is found in Gujjadi is Linga Mudrike stone. It is also known that there is a Guheshwara temple nearby.
Pradeep Kumar Basrur, Mahesh Kini, Sunil Kumar Gulladi, Buddu Devadiga, Ravi C Poojary, Jayaraj Poojary, Ravish Gujjadi and Ganesh Devadiga were in the team that gave the description of Linga Mudrike stones.
