Udupi: Hundreds Participate in Monsoon Rural Sports Meet

Udupi, Jul 18: Yellur Youth Club organized a monsoon rural sports meet as part of their golden jubilee celebrations at Vishwanath temple premises and Brahma Baidarkala Garadi premises, Yellur, near here, on Sunday July 17.
It was for the first time that an all-day meet was held in Yellur.
The event began with the men placing huge stocks of rice saplings in the paddy field and women planting the samples of saplings on the occasion.
Rural sports competitions such as climbing coconut trees and setting the ‘mura’ of rice for the men, de-husking of coconut, running in sacks, running in silted fields for both men and women, biscuit-eating for men and women, slow-cycle-race in disused paddy field for men and women, weaving of ‘tendu’ leaves were held during the day-long event.
Yellur temple manager Raghavendra Rao, Yellur Youth Club advisor K L Kundantaya, Sudarshan Y S, golden jubilee celebration committee convener Yashawanth Shetty, Yellur Youth Club president Deepak Y, and Belapu gram panchayat vice-president Niranjan Shetty were present on the occasion.
Cash prizes and trophies were presented to the winners of each competition on the spot.
Hundreds of youth, men, and women from the neighbouring villages of Yellur enthusiastically participated in the rural sports meet.
