New Delhi, Jun 8: Renowned and very popular news anchor of Doordarshan Gitanjali Aiyar passed away on June 7. She was 76.
In a career spanning 30 years, Iyer received best anchor award four times. She began her career with Doordarshan in 1971 as English news anchor.
Gitanjali was born on January 29, 1947. Iyer was an alumni of Loreto College Kolkata where she did her graduation. Later she acquired a diploma from National School of Drama. Before the beginning of cable industry, Iyer was a celebrity in the TV news industry. She also featured in many advertisements of famous brands of her time.
Gitanjali was cast in the Hindi TV soap ‘Khandaan’. She took up corporate communication and marketing after her successful stint with Doordarshan. She was the advisor of CII for many years.
Gitanjali is survived by a son and a daughter who are settled overseas. Her funeral will be held after both her children reach India.
