Beltangady, Jun 8: An undertrial prisoner, who had killed his grandmother with a wooden log in July 2022 at Kerekodi in Belalu village, died due to illness on Wednesday June 7.
The deceased is identified as Ashoka Gowda (35), a resident of Kanarpa Mane of Kadirudyavara village. He had killed his grandmother Akku Gowda (85) and looted her gold ornaments before escaping.
Police arrested Ashoka and filed a case against him at Dharmasthala police station.
Ashoka was an alcoholic and also had other vices. He was mentally sick for the same reason. He had gone to his grandmother’s house and killed her for the sake of the gold ornaments she was wearing. When the family members returned home in the evening, the heinous act came to light.
Ashoka Gowda was suffering from diabetes and Tuberculosis. He was admitted to Wenlock hospital for higher treatment. However, he died on Wednesday.
