Udupi, Jun 7: Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, celebrated a momentous occasion on Wednesday, June 7 with the inauguration of the "Manipal Centre for Embryology & Reproductive Science."
Achim Burkart, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bengaluru was the chief guest of the program. In his inaugural address Mr Burkart said that, MAHE Manipal is a hub for education, healthcare excellence and innovation. With a commitment to advancing medical knowledge, delivering high-quality patient care, and fostering collaborations, the inauguration of the Center represents another stride forward in fulfilling the mission to improve healthcare in fertility other reproductive issues at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal”. “Germany and India have continuously strengthened their ties during the last seven decades, especially in scientific cooperation aiming to serve the welfare of the people. Both countries are now emphasizing to promote international research cooperation to benefit human health. The MERCK and other German Companies have been involved with universities for research and development activities, and are in the process of setting up the biggest research development facility worldwide at Bangaluru investing 135 Billion Euros in doing so.”, he added.
Dr Sharath Kumar Rao , Pro Vice Chancellor, MAHE was the guest of honour of the program and said, ‘Research plays a crucial role in advancing the field of infertility practice, as it provides a platform for discovering new treatment modalities, enhancing existing techniques, and unraveling the underlying causes of infertility. Our centre is committed to spearheading research initiatives that can lead to ground-breaking discoveries and reshape the landscape of reproductive medicine and embryology. The number of students in Australia, Singapore, United States and U K from India have overtaken Chines in these countries. I assure you it will happen in European countries also in a couple of years.
Presiding over the event, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE Manipal said, ‘Our partnership with German industries has been helping African countries by producing competent human resources to work in their IVF centers thereby trying to provide the best healthcare in this field. We are confident that the center will pave the way for groundbreaking discoveries, empower healthcare professionals, and provide renewed hope to those facing infertility challenges’ And he said that June has been more pleasurable to all of us, on the 1st of June the Times Impact Ranking MAHE has been ranked No 4 in Gender Equity in the world and 25th in Quality Education and also has been ranked No. 6 in NIRF, University Category.
Professor Satish Adiga, Head of the division of Clinical Embryology provided an enlightening overview of the Manipal Centre for Embryology and Reproductive Science, emphasizing the collaboration with Germany in terms of technology transfer, addressing the fertility issues through research partnerships and education has helped significantly in the growth of the centre’ . Dr Padmaraj Hegde, Dean of KMC Manipal welcomed the gathering and Professor Guruprasad Kalthur, Head of the Reproductive Science Department proposed vote of thanks.
Kasturba Medical College, Manipal was the first to establish clinical embryology subspeciality in Asia in 2005, aiming to provide thorough academic training, research experience, ethics and skills related to infertility. Currently, the centre is one of the top centres in Asia for advanced training and research in the field of infertility and embryology and received recognition from many national and international bodies.
