Mangaluru, Jun 6: State home minister Dr G Parameshwar, who is on a tour of the coastal districts, held a meeting with police officials of western range and commissionerate limits on Tuesday June 6.
Addressing media, he said, “I have reviewed the challenges and problems faced in Mangaluru. This is not a new post for me. New challenges have emerged and there are a lot of changes in the society. New challenges have also emerged for the police department.
“People in Mangaluru are good and hardworking. It is said that this region lacks peace and communal harmony, and there is an atmosphere of fear.
“When I was the manifesto committee president, I met people from various organisations. The only demand came from people is that they need peace and communal harmony in the state. The government and police department need take the right action.
“I have directed the police department to take stringent action against those involved in moral policing. When such incidents occur, it will earn a bad name to the region and state as well. We will not spare anyone who indulges in moral policing and will take action against them.
“An anti-communal wing will be formed in Mangaluru city commissionerate to tackle such incidents. Officials will be appointed to the wing as per the direction of the police commissioner to control moral policing. We will form it within the police force. Such wings will be formed wherever required. We will start it first under Mangaluru police commissionerate. If it is successful, it will be extend to other areas as well. The anti-communal wing guidelines will be drafted by the police commissioner.
“We will also take action against drug mafia. Many youths are getting involved in narcotic drug activities. August 15 is the deadline given to the police department to curb drug menace, take action and ensure that no drugs are available anywhere. Action will be taken against peddlers and consumers as well. I have faith in the police department that they will take the necessary steps to curb drug menace.
“Anyone who takes law into their hands will not be spared. Measures will be taken to provide compensation to murder victims Deepak Rao, Fazil, Masood and Jaleel.
“As a home minister, I appeal to the public and students not to indulge in drugs, gambling any illegal activities and cooperate to curb down related issues in the society,” he said.
ADGP Alok Kumar, IGP Chandragupta, ASP Rishyanth , police commissioner Kuldeep Jain, DCP law and order Anshu Kumar, and SP Chikkamagaluru Uma Prashanth were present.
