Davanagere, Jun 5: The State Legislature session is most likely to commence from July 3 and the Congress government’s budget for the current year will be presented on July 7, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Monday.
The Chief Minister, who arrived at Davanagere by helicopter, told media persons that all the preparatory work for the budget has started.
A formal decision on convening the budget session will be taken at the next Cabinet meeting, he said.
The Chief Minister, who had earlier indicated that the budget size is likely to be around Rs 3.25 lakh crore from the one presented earlier for Rs 3.09 lakh crore, said a clearer picture would be available after holding all consultations.
Siddaramaiah said the State Cabinet will discuss the anti-cow slaughter legislation of 1964. The law speaks about barren animals and those not suitable for use in cultivation. The farmers face their own problems in maintaining the animals while the citizens have to contend with stray cattle menace.
“All these aspects need to be discussed before any decision is taken,’’ he said.
He said the decision on increasing the power tariff by 70 paise per unit was taken during the tenure of the previous government and the KERC had announced it on the eve of the counting of votes with retrospective effect from April 1. It is now being implemented, he said.
The Chief Minister said arrangements are being made to revive the Indira Canteens and they will be opened.
