Udupi, Jun 3: The four days staff enrichment programme in joint association with St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady and Christ School, Manipal was inaugurated and held at Fr J P Tauro Memorial Hall on May 25.
Fr Johnson Sequeira, principal of SMES, Kannarpady, Eliza Vaz, principal of Christ School, Manipal, Fr Robert D’Souza, principal of Lourdes Central School, Bejai, Mangaluru, Fr Sooraj Lobo, asst parish priest, Bejai Church and Rita Quadros, vice principal of SMES, Kannarpady inaugurated the staff enrichment programs by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Eliza Vaz and Fr Johnson Sequeira in their introductory remarks highlighted the noble qualities of teaching profession and advised teachers to upgrade their professional skills.
May 25 - Morning Session
The resource person Fr Robert D’Souza, principal of Lourdes Central School, Bejai, and Mangaluru in his interactive session highlighted the need of sharpening the qualities of captability, compassion, enthusiasm, self-integrity and competitiveness required to achieve the constant professional growth of teachers.Fr Sooraj Lobo contributed to the session through educational games and action songs.
May 25 - Afternoon Session
Ignatius Kuriakose, the corporate trainer from Chennai conducted a thought provoking session on the ‘Personality development of teachers’. He gave his fresh insights on how to build a strong emotional connectivity with the students and cater to the needs of diversified learners characterized by unique learning styles. Shruthi anchored both the sessions.
May 26
John Nogera, the renowned corporate trainer from Goa conducted a session on 'Effective Teaching'. The salient features of NEP, 21st century skills, multiple intelligence, collaborative approach in education, role of effective communication in teaching , critical thinking etc. were elaborated by him through variety of games and activities. Ms Poornima Amin anchored the session.
May 29 & 30
Jayashree Mukharji, the resource person from Delhi conducted two days training workshop on communicative English. The creative ways of sharpening the listening, speaking, reading and writing skills of students in language teaching were detailed to the teacher delegates through many innovative activities. The methods of preparing the balanced question paper as per the guidelines of NEP, the role of positive feedback in the process of evaluation , the significance of nonverbal communication in teaching, the collaborative approach in education, Active learning skills etc. were also brainstormed during the interactive sessions.
The valedictory programme of the 4 days programme was held on May 30 in the honorable presence of Fr Johnson Sequeira, Eliza Vaz, Rita Quadros and Sathish, the executive from Macmillan Publication. Nayana Ramraj anchored the two days session. Total 105 teacher delegates from the two schools participated in these staff enrichment sessions.
