Lokayukta Team Catches Assistant Drug Control Officer Red-handed

Mangalore, Jul 16: Lokayukta officials on Saturday July 16 caught assistant drug control officer red-handed accepting a bribe from medical shop owners during a meeting called at Samadhan Hotel near Thokkottu here.
The Lokayukta police who acted on a tip-off caught the officer, Dr Raveendra Shah taking Rs 49,000 wrapped in 14 covers from medical shop owners.
Speaking to Daijiworld, a member of the Lokayukta team said that the name of the person who informed about the meeting taking place cannot be revealed. The incident has given thrown light on the fact that even medical shop owners violate norms and neglect the health of their customers.
Shah demanded bribe from as many as 14 medical shop owners (in Ullal and Thokkottu and surrounding area) in order to renew their licences and to do some favours to them while carrying out the annual inspection.
Lokayukta SP Jagamayyanawar, inspector Uday Naik among others participated in the operation. Shah will be presented before the judge the same night.
