Lokayukta Team Catches Assistant Drug Control Officer Red-handed

Mangalore, Jul 16: Lokayukta officials on Saturday July 16 caught assistant drug control officer red-handed accepting a bribe from medical shop owners during a meeting called at Samadhan Hotel near Thokkottu here.
 
The Lokayukta police who acted on a tip-off caught the officer, Dr Raveendra Shah taking Rs 49,000 wrapped in 14 covers from medical shop owners.

Speaking to Daijiworld, a member of the Lokayukta team said that the name of the person who informed about the meeting taking place cannot be revealed. The incident has given thrown light on the fact that even medical shop owners violate norms and neglect the health of their customers.
 
Shah demanded bribe from as many as 14 medical shop owners (in Ullal and Thokkottu and surrounding area) in order to renew their licences and to do some favours to them while carrying out the annual inspection.
 
Lokayukta SP Jagamayyanawar, inspector Uday Naik among others participated in the operation. Shah will be presented before the judge the same night.

    DRUG CONTROLLER OFFICER IS CAUGHT RED HANDED BY LOKAUKTA BUT WHY YEDDY AND REDDY BROS ARE NOT CAUGHT EVEN AFTER SO MUCH OF SCAMS OF LANDS AND ILLEGAL MINING OF REDDY BROS WERE PROVED ? WHY HEGDE IS NOT DOING HIS JOB PROPERLY. POOR PEOPLE ARE CAUGHT FOR SMALL BRIBES AND THE BIG FISH IS LET OFF. SHAME ON HEGDE. HEGDE IS BRIBED BY YEDDY NOT TO TAKE ACTION AGGINST HIM AND REDDY BROS AND EVEN LAND IS GIVEN TO HEGDE BY YEDDY.

    The brave work of nabbing the corrupt by the Lokayukta is though laudable, it is a pity to know what ultimately happens to the officials. After some time they are left free without even confiscating the loot by the Government. When the CM of the State himself claims that corruption is common and even his predecessors have done it so he is also justified, how we can expect the officials remain sincere. We need powers to be vested with the Lokayuktha so that they can punish the guilty immediately and restore justice into the social fabric. Now all the officials are aware that Lokayukta is only a paper tiger and they will come out without any punishment in a few days’ time and on the contrary this gives them good publicity.

    It's good that there's weeding out of corrupt elements is happening. but unfortunately, all we see is these corrupt people getting suspended temporarily, or booting them out of one ministry to another. they never get punished. the disease is pan-india.

    i disagree with jude or elaine, mangalore happens to be better off than most parts in india, if you compare us to the gulf countries sure - it is corrupt. but if you compare ourselves to the rest of india, we are decent enough. that said, any improvement is always welcome.

    zero corruption can be achieved when the whole country rises above petty corruption, and that includes we the people who pay bribes too to get our work done.

    Again a small fly gets caught by the Lokayukta where-as 1 lakh politicians/govt officials who receives in crores are spared. I wonder if Justice Hegde is running an effecient office. I hear that judges are being bribed. Who is and who isnt I ask to my self.

    I earnestly request media people to investigate these Lokayukta officer's assets. I'm damn sure, the officer refused to yield to their demands, hence caught. These lokayukta need one bakra, once in a while, just to save their jobs. The entire world knows, the complete system is rotten.

    This is one of the most corrupt departments in Karnataka and I have been screaming about it for long. As a young 21 years old graduate I ventured into this business and by the age of 26 had to give up due to these corrupt crooks. I can even name each one of the scoundrels who drove me away and I finally had to give up, sell our business. If I was in charge i would hang every official in the drugs control department. I know I sound very harsh, but it is the truth. Both these guys and the sales tax guys are the worst criminals. There was a senior sales tax official as old as my dad then. Reeking in corruption. JUST HANG THEM.

    Well done Lok Ayukta.. The Drug Control Dept. Mangalore is one of the most corrupt depts and many more need to get into your net.!!
    It would be a real relief to the chemists and druggists for sure !
