Mangalore: KCCI Seeks Meeting With Minister Nirani to Discuss MSEZ Status

Daijiworld Media Network—Mangalore (CN)

Mangalore, Jul 15: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has sought a meeting with Murugesh R Nirani, the state’s minister for large and medium scale industries, to request sufficient land for the Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) to function as a ‘general multiproduct special economic zone’.

A letter to this effect, addressed to the minister, said that the current status of the MSEZ was restricted to a petroleum and petrochemical SEZ only for want of sufficient land—a minimum 2500 acres as specified by the Government of India.

The letter also said that there are investors already lined up who are looking forward to setting up their units for the purpose of export in the region. The KCCI has requested that the land required for making up the quota of 1000 hectares be made available to the Mangalore SEZ as per MoU signed between the MSEZ Ltd and the state government.

The letter further added that the multiproduct SEZ will generate employment for about 1,25,000 people directly and twice that number indirectly which is a dire need of our state and cannot be expected from a sector specific SEZ.

The letter also stated that a large number of families of the area identified for land acquisition have already consented to part with their land to KIADB for industrial development and hence further action in this regard needed to be initiated immediately.

More projects should come to mangalore and definitely it will have the impact on economy. It is not the question of getting direct jobs in the so called projects. It will provide opportunity for people to do their own business and indeirect employment. The benefit of which goes to the local people. Infrastructure development will come on its own.

Devdas, your analysis is worthy. But don,t differentiate between an Indian from one region to another. KCCI has hawkish intention in the name of development. Let all such Chambers of Commerce unite and open SEZs in arid lands of Gulbarga, Raichur, Bijapur etc.

More land..More Jobs ?  Is there any data collected of how many Tulunadu & Land looser have got employment beniffits for the so far acquired Land have created . The promise of More jobs are totally false claims as teh Project for smal & Medium size industries proposals are only to acquire land for Bigger coroprate sector, realtors, and Political personlities involved as the Land in and around Mangalore are very expensive and can make easy fast money with minimum investment at the cost of poor farmers and Mangalorean people.

Why cant these people take land for project for Saml scale & Medium scale industries in far way district whic are having dry land. For any small scale industires you require only Water, power, raw material & good transportation for exporting connecting to Sea port or Aitr frieght cargo.

Mangaloreans are been fooled by our Politicians and Bereacrats for making fast money. The KCCI and KIADB are part and parcel in this Masive land acquireing mafia plan .

Protest sholud be intensified and Talunadu people should join to protest to save and Mother land and culture being destroyed.

We required Bold lady like WEST bengal present CM to organsise protest and lead sincerely.
Jai Tulunadu.Media should take positive role in creating awareness and be fare with people sentiments.

Look at the MRPL-ONGC,OMPL etc and see how many of the people of Tulunadu origin who got the employment. Majority of the employees are getting recruited from outside Tulunadu/Karnataka. Readers, please be rest assured that employment figures given are simply to fool the public by the vested interest parties. KCCI please stop this non-sense.

Please note that the poor farmers who have given their consent by fear of forcible acquisition and false rumors created by the "under cover" agents who bagged their hefty commissions(this is 100% true). One more reason why those farmers who have given their consent is to get a job in company like MRPL which pays good salary to its employees unmindful of the fact that they are fooled because they will never get a job with good salary because companies will employ them probably as watchman, attender, etc. If they demand good jobs, then, the management will cite various reasons not to promote them, such as education, percentage of marks, etc.
