Mangaluru, May 26: Acting on a definite tip off, Kankanady city police station personnel raided illegal sand excavation that was going on the banks of Netravati river at Faisalnagar and confiscated 10 loads of sand and a excavator. The total value of the confiscated goods is said to be Rs 3.70 lac.
SI Jyoti N from Kankanady police station got a tip off about illegal sand excavation around 3 am on Thursday when she was on patrolling duty. At 3.20 am, Jyoti reached the spot with personnel. They found five loads of sand kept as stock on the spot. An excavator was also found but the driver escaped from the spot.
Five more loads of sand were found kept stock on a deserted area around 500 meters from the bank of the river.
A case in this connection is registered by the police and further investigation is on.
