Mangalore, July 14: The Association of English Teachers of Mangalore University organized a one day workshop on English teaching at Vijaya College, Mulky here on Monday July 11.
Administrative officer of the Academy of General Education, Manipal Dr H Shantaram inaugurated the workshop. In his speech Shantaram observed that the recent fashion in the education field is to make studies easier, which is not a healthy trend. Even Kannada is not taught properly, he added.
He noted that it is the duty of the English lecturers to create interest for the language among students. Students should learn particular language as languages instead as subjects.
Resource person of the event Prof Rajendra Chenni of Kuvempu University spoke on three novels ‘Things Fall Apart’, ‘Animal Farm’, and ‘The Apprentice’ which are prescribed as texts for third semester degree students.
Chairman of governing council at Vijaya College Dr M A R Kudva presided over the function.
Principal Prof K R Shankar wished all the success for the workshop. President of AET Prof Vincent Alva welcomed the guests and Prof Dattatreya proposed vote of thanks.
secretary of Association Prof Baburaj compered and English department head Prof Hayavadana Upadhya moderated the sessions.
A total of 130 English lecturers form Kodagu, Dakshin Kannada and Udupi districts participated in the event.
