Udupi, May 8: “Karnataka Vidhana Sabha elections 2023 will be held between 7 am and 6 pm in all the designated polling booths on May 10. All the necessary preparations have been made for it,” said deputy commissioner Kurma Rao M.
Speaking in a news conference at the deputy commissioner’s office, he said that a copy of the final voters list has been provided to the recognised national and state political parties.
“A copy of the polling booths has been issued to the contesting candidates. Voters should produce any one among the Epic Card, Aadhaar card, MNREGA employment identity card, passbook issued by the post office or the banks to prove their identity at polling booths before casting their votes,” he said.
“Specially-abled voters will be provided wheel chairs, magnifying glass, list of candidates in braille and a ramp on request besides transport facilities,” he said.
“The mustering and demustering process of Udupi Vidhana Sabha constituency will be held at St Cicily’s Education Trust and that of Kundapura at Bhandarkar’s Arts and Science College, of Byndoor at Government Pre- university College, Kaup, of Kaup at Dandathirtha PU College and of Karkala at Majunath Pai Memorial Government First Grade College.”
“A total amount of Rs 2,14,91,030 in cash and 42,313.13 litres of liquor has been seized so far. Those who are not voters should not remain at guest houses, lodges, hostels and pilgrim centres as per the directives from the Election Commission of India,” he said.
Udupi district SP Hakay Akshay Machindra said that platoons of 19 paramilitary troops are being deployed.
“90 route marches are being conducted to boost confidence among the people regarding their safety and to reassure the people about the efforts being made by the authorities to conduct the election process smoothly. Bonding is done from more than 850 people in 741 cases. Rs 7 lacs has been levied from seven guilty people. 13 people have been sent away from the borders. Two have been arrested under the Goonda Act. All the arms except 27 out of 3,300 have been deposited. Suitable security is provided during all the campaign programmes in the district. All the polling booths will be watched during the elections by 73 special sectors,” he said.
