Bangalore, July 8 (IANS) Former Bharatiya Janata Party minister in Karnataka Katta Sumbramanya Naidu and his son Katta Jagadish Naidu were Friday formally charged in a land scam.
The charge sheet was filed by Lokayukta (ombudsman) two days after Governor H.R. Bhardwaj sanctioned prosecution of Naidu for allegedly taking kickback of Rs.87 crore for favouring an IT firm in allotment of 325 acres of land near Bangalore.
Also facing the charge sheet is S.V. Srinivas, managing director of the IT firm ITASCA Software, and some officials of the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).
The scandal took place when Naidu was industry minister in 2007 in the Janata Dal(Secular)-BJP coalition government.
He resigned in December 2010 when the Lokayukta filed a complaint with the police against him, his son, Katta Jagadish, a Bangalore corporator, and several others for involvement in the land and bribery scam.
