Mumbai: Heavy Rain Puts Normal Life out of Gear, Bollywood Tweets

Mumbai, Jul 8: Heavy downpour in Mumbai over the past two days has created innumerable problems for the citizens who are being forced to struggle through inundated streets and water-logged areas. Commuters and pedestrians have been having a tough time going about their day, and even rail and air traffic have been affected.
Train services were delayed for about 15 minutes causing inconvenience to the commuters. Road and air traffic were also affected by the incessant rains.
A Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) official said that due to sudden drop in invisibility, flight operations had to be suspended for a short while.
The Meteorological Department here, recorded rainfall of 162.8 mm in Colaba and 116 mm of rainfall in Santacruz on Friday July 8.
In areas like Vileparle, Borivali, Kandivali, Malad, Andheri, Malad, Dharavi and a few others, there were complaints of water logging. In Sion, cars were damaged when trees fell over them.
Officials said that no incidents of walls caving in have been reported.
The weather bureau has forecasted heavy to very heavy showers to occur in parts of the city.
Meanwhile, for Bollywood celebrities, it was time to narrate their experiences on Twitter.
"From Juhu 2 airport have been on the road for 2 hours already. Mumbai breaks down in rains," Shekhar Kapur said on his Twitter page.
Lara Dutta would love to trek, except for her hair: "Can hear a good monsoon trek in the ghats calling! Time 2 stretch those muscles and put them 2 some use! Muscles r ready, hair is complaining!"
Bipasha Basu exclaimed that the scene resembled Venice, and that she only had to switch her car for a Gondola and driver for a handsome gondola guy.
Rain did not stop fashion designer Manish Malhotra from making his way to film city through the slushy streets, enjoying his music.
Arshad Warsi got quite poetic: "Gd mrng ppl of the wrld... the cool breeze, the haze, n the washed leaves is what I got up to... Monsoons in Mumbai, the other season."
"It was squash and cricket with the lads yesterday. with large amounts of water raining down, water polo it is for today," wrote Rahul Bose, known for his enthusiasm for sports.
Indeed, good or bad, rain is a unifier!
