Puttur, Jul 5: On Sunday July 3 night, thieves entered two houses and pulled away gold ornaments from the necks of sleeping women.
They gained entry into the residence of P G Jagannivas Rao at Bangar Kairkatte here, and yanked away a Karimani chain from his wife's neck. However, a piece of Kariyamani remained with her, as she woke up and held on to the ornament. Loss in this incident has been put at Rs 21,000.
In another incident reported from Bolwar Bail here, the thieves entered the house of Vivek by breaking open the house door, pulled away a chain worth Rs 25,000, worn around the neck by an elderly woman, and escaped. In this case too, the woman woke up, but could not stop the thieves from running away.
The thieves also tried to enter a house in Bolwar by breaking open its door. As the family members woke up from slumber because of the sound, the gang of three thieves took to heels.
Assistant superintendent of police, Rohini Katoch, visited the houses and guided investigation. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts also examined the area. It is felt that all the three incidents were the handiwork of the same gang. A case was registered in the local police station. The policemen are flooded with a number of complaints of theft in the recent past, and it has come as a challenge for them to regulate such incidents.
