Bantwal, Jul 5: Barpi Falls, located by the side of state highway between Kalladka and Kanhangad at Veerakambha, near Kalladka in the taluk, has mostly remained unnoticed and unexplored. The existence of this falls has been so much ignored that even many people who have lived in the neighbourhood since decades, are unaware of its existence.
The falls, which comes into life only during the monsoon months, provides a thrill that can be compared with the sight of Jog Falls in Shimoga district and Abbi Falls of Madikeri. Only the residents of nearby villages have enjoyed its beauty, and even now, most of the tourists who come here to bathe in this nature’s boon are from nearby villages.
The falls also poses challenges to adventurers, who bask under the force of the falls and play in foamy water. The falls continues to be vibrant till the onset of winter, and the flow of water keeps changing in consonance with the rain fury in the catchments.
The pathway leading to two houses located near the falls is the only route to reach the falls. The zilla panchayat has built a protective wall near the falls to protect these houses from damage from the falls. The falls can turn into a tourist attraction, if the local administration builds facilities for the tourists to rest and view the falls from close proximity. It will be a boon to the tourists too, as they can enjoy the force, grace, and full flow of the falls without having to spend considerably to travel to nearby districts.
