Daijiworld Weekly Editor Hemacharya Urges Media to Reform Thinking of Citizens

Mangalore, Jul 5: "Chaos is being created in society by the media today. It is time for the journalists to reform the thinking of people for the betterment of society," said Hemacharya, editor-in-chief, Daijiworld Weekly.
He was speaking after inaugurating the convention of representatives of ‘Amcho Sandesh’ Konkani monthly bulletin of Mangalore diocesan Catholic Sabha during the function held at the auditorium at Bishop’s House here on Sunday July 3.
"Now, the media has been giving undue importance to political uproars, communal violence, and crime. It has led to the readers craving for such news. Sensitive and enlightened journalists have great responsibilities to reform the readers in order to create social harmony," stressed Hemacharya.
Walter Cyril Pinto, entrepreneur and president of Catholic Sabha – Central Committee, said that ‘Amcho Sandesh’, Konkani bulletin of Mangalore diocesan Catholic Sabha, lays emphasis on creating awareness and providing information, thereby striving for societal progress. "The united efforts of the editorial department and its media representatives indeed will take a lead in this regard," he said.
Pinto felicitated Fr Vincent Monteiro who retired as spiritual director of Catholic Sabha Central Committee on the same occasion.
Konkani veteran columnist and short story writer Edy Netto spoke on excellence in reporting, while Amcho Sandesh sub-editor Wilfred Lobo spoke on ‘Art of Reporting at the Convention’.
Amcho Sandesh editor George Ligoury D’Souza said that the bulletin has wide circulation among the Konkani speaking-community. "He urged the media representatives to increase the readership in their respective localities," urged George Ligoury D’Souza.
Circulation manager Professor F M J Crasta and advertising manager Joachim D’Costa provided information about their respective departments on the occasion.
