Udupi, Apr 18: “I did not sit in Bengaluru because I lost. I have mingled with the people and worked more than the elected representatives. I am confident that people will hold my hand in the elections,” said Kaup constituency Congress candidate Vinay Kumar Sorake.
Speaking in a public meeting at Kaup market before filing his nomination, he said the people will value clean politics and elect him this time.
“I will not speak about the opponent candidate. I do not know the part of SDPI. I will fight and obtain the necessary facilities for the residents of Kaup. The chief minister had announced on the stage that free rice will be distributed. But later the ruling BJP apologised. No amount has been provided yet for Narayana Guru Nigama. It is only on paper. The governments at the centre and the state have relentlessly harassed minorities," he said.
"Congress will sweep North Karnataka. It will sweep the coast in 10 -20 days. Janardhan Poojary, Siddaramaiah, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi will arrive for campaigns,” he said.
Sorake visited several temples at Kaup and offered poojas before filing the nomination. He proceeded to Kaup taluk office in a rally after offering special pooja at Kaup Janardhana temple and filed his nomination.
He said that filing of nomination at the Taluk Soudha constructed during his term as the MLA has made him proud and glad. “Kaup is known to protect all. There should be peace here. There are ample opportunities for tourism here. An industrial zone should be formed. Hejmady bridge work needs to be completed. The facilities necessary for Taluk Soudha should be made available. There should be support for jasmine cultivation. A well-equipped playground is necessary here. The real progress for Kaup is to make it self sufficient,” he said.
Congress leader Sudheer Kumar Maroli called on people to elect "sincere politician" Sorake so that "a new era of development may begin at Kaup."
Udupi district Congress president Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Congress candidates Prasad Raj Kanchan, M A Gafoor and others were present.
