Udupi, Jul 4: The state higher education and district-in-charge minister Dr V S Acharya inaugurated the taluk’s 8th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at the late Bhojaraj Shetty stage, Laxmi Janardhan temple auditorium, Kaup, on the morning of Sunday July 3.
Dr Mahabaleshwar Rao, renowned Kannada litterateur, education expert and critic, presided over the programme.
MLA Lalaji R Mendon and former MLA Vasant V Salian were the chief guests o n the occasion.
Reception committee honorary president K P Acharya inaugurated the colourful procession that was held from Kaup welcome arch to the auditorium.
The Committee president Nadikere Ratnakar Shetty hoisted the national flag. Kannada Sahitya Parishat district president Ambatanaya Mudrady hoisted the Parishat flag. Kaup GP president Yogish Rai hoisted Kannada flag. Vasant V Salian inaugurated the book exhibition.
Folklore scholar K L Kundantaya delivered a special lecture about the cultural specialities of Kaup while Nilavar Surendra Adiga, Pratapchandra Shetty Halnadu, Peroor Jaru, and Dr Niketan presented papers on Udupi district, and the future of Kannada.
‘Gamaka’ musicians S Sridar Hande, H Chandrashekar Kedlaya, B Ramachandra Rao and H Sujayindra Hande participated in the Gamaka musical extravaganza. Poet Sheela K Shetty chaired the poets’ session held on Sunday evening.

Professor A V Navada delivered the valedictory address.Kannada Sahitya Parishat former president Harikrishna Punaroor and TP president Devdas Hebbar were the chief guests on the occasion. Ambatanaya Mudrady, Kannada Sahitya Parishat taluk president Dr Gananat Yekkar, taluk secretary Eshwar Chitpady and others were present on the occasion.
A large number of people were present through the Sammelan.
