Mangaluru: Yenepoya School, Akshara House of Children holds ‘Yen Camp 2023’

Mangaluru, Apr 14: The Yenepoya School and Akshara House of Children organised the most awaited summer camp, ‘Yen Camp 2023’ from the April 1- 13, conducted at the school campus. Yen Camp celebrated a decade since it was first organised.

The camp witnessed a huge turnout from children of ages 3 to 15 years from all over Mangaluru. Every year, the team looks forward to planning and implementing the camp. They believe that they have as much fun as the children do. This year, at Yen Camp, the children enjoyed various activities, while making new friends and learning new skills. The activities at the camp were held for 2 different age groups. Group 1 housed children of ages 3-5. A dedicated group of teachers along with Akka’s were very much a part of the children’s summer camp. They helped the children with their activities, snacks, playtime and more. The little ones were given tasks and activities to keep them fit and encourage them to learn more.

The camp kick started on April 1 post the inauguration with an interactive ice breaking session. The children got more accustomed with their new friends and teachers thereafter. Every morning, the children would start their day with an energizing session of Zumba and yoga alternatively, the teachers enjoyed hosting special activities like story telling – which encouraged children to share stories as well, a puppet show during which the children giggled continuous.

The children were given a session on eating healthy after which the teachers demonstrated on how to make a healthy sandwiches. The children enjoyed the process and relished the sandwiches. On April 8, the children went on a picnic to the beach and enjoyed beach activities like kite flying, sand castle making and played fun games on the beach. As it is important for our future generations to learn about the environment, children were informed of the importance of growing more plants.

They planted seedlings into individual pots which are kept aside to hand over to the children as their pet plants. A fun pyjama party was planned for the children on April 11 where children came to the campus in their favourite pair of pyjamas. A night time set up was placed where the kids plopped on cushions and pillows, danced around in joy, watched a movie and munched on popcorn.

In order to tickle the curiosity of the little ones, the teachers displayed science experiments to which the children showed their awe and appreciation. As art is a big part of brining out one’s creativity, the children were given different activities with art. They stuck papers on a tree to make the leaves stand out, they coloured on printed patterns, and they painted petals of flowers and made beautiful flowers out of chart, clay modeling and more. The final day concluded with a session on good habits.

The children of group 2 also had many activities for them. As group 2 consisted of children of ages 6 – 15, they were given an option to choose one between many sporting activities like football, cricket, swimming and badminton coaching and one among art and dance. Each day began with a yoga or zumba session to refresh the body and mind, after which children joined their choice of activity.

Apart from these activities, the children were taken to thannirbhavi beach for a picnic to enjoy games, castle making and kite flying on the beach. They enjoyed playing kabaddi on the sand while their friends cheered for them. They were also given a talk on nutrition, healthy eating and keeping fit during their picnic. Children, who enjoy art, were extremely overjoyed by the art classes, as it gave them time and the space to bring out their imagination and creativity. Special coaching sessions for sporting activities were given by our certified and expert coaches. Children learnt many skills during their football and cricket practices, they were given obstacles that made them run along the grounds to increase their stamina.

The coaches corrected their forms and showed the kids the right way of batting and bowling, increasing practice time every day. Those who selected swimming would look forward to enjoying their swim in the pool. Many were beginners who learnt the basics of swimming. Badminton coaching took place in the indoor court, where students learnt the right serving techniques, the rules of the game and practised every day. Children, who opted for dance, enjoyed every move and sang along while dancing. They looked forward to their dance sessions.

The final day of the camp witnessed a huge celebration. The parents of the campers were invited for the grand finale, where hi-tea was server. Children put up a display of their skills that they accumulated during the camp. The finale culminated with distribution of certificates, where the parents were invited and a photo was clicked of each family. Every child went back home with a goodie bag and a smile upon their face.

The children of Yen camp 2023 enjoyed every bit of the camp. The management and staff of The Yenepoya School are grateful to the parents for their support.
