Mangalore, Jul 2: In an incident that occurred in the wee hours of Friday July 1, a senior citizen living alone at her residence at Manjukudla House, Neermarga in the city, was gagged, and her hands and legs were tied, by unknown robbers. The robbers then took away Rs 40,000 in cash and a gold chain weighing 3.5 sovereigns.
The robbers, who seemed to be aware that she was alone at home at the time, knocked at her doors at around 2.30 am. When she opened the doors, two robbers forced their entry into the house, stuffed cloth pieces into her mouth, and tied together her legs and hands. Cicilia said that she could not see the faces of robbers as they were covered with white cloth. She also said that the men conversed in Malayalam.
Cicilia, who is involved with piggery, reportedly had kept the cash at home after selling some pigs. The fact that no other houses are located nearby, made it easy for the robbers.
A case in this connection was registered in the rural police station here.
