Beltangady, Apr 9: The two girls who were friends, admitted to Narali Hospital following stomach ache on April 6 may have died due to poisoning, prima facie investigations have suggested.
Lavanya (21), daughter of Srinivasa Acharya's girlfriend, and Rakshita (22), daughter of Pattur Babu from Patrame village had complained of stomach ache at their homes and were taken to the hospital. Rakshita died first, and Lavanya later on the same day. It is suspected that they were both poisoned at the same time.
Dharamsthala Police Station SI Anil and staff visited the house of the deceased and collected information. Both were social workers reportedly performing their duties well, but Lavanya had resigned from her position in March. Rakshita also did not continue in the service. It is suspected that a disturbing incident may have occurred between them, and they may have consumed poison due to shock. However, the families have no clarity on the issue. The district SP, Amathe Vikram, stated that FSL report is expected to provide more information, and the investigation will continue from various angles.
On Saturday, MLA Harish Poonja visited the house of the deceased and consoled with the family. Kokkada Gram Panchayat president Yogeesh Alambila, Patram Gram Panchayat vice president Yatish, and member Manoj were also present.
