Beltangady, Apr 7: Two young girls, neighbours, who were admitted to hospital in Mangaluru for severe stomach ache, succumbed on Thursday April 6.
The deceased are identified as Rakshitha (22), daughter of Patturu Babu, and Lavanya (21), daughter of Srinivasa Acharya, neighbour of Pattaru Babu, residents of Patrame village.
While Rakshitha died in the private hospital of Mangaluru on Thursday morning, Lavanya succumbed in the afternoon.
Out of the two, it is confirmed that Rakshitha had consumed poison. However, the exact cause of Lavanya’s death is yet to be known.
Both Rakshitha and Lavanya were working as service representatives of rural development scheme.
On April 4, both Lavanya and Rakshitha reported that they are suffering from severe stomach ache with their family members. Both were admitted to Nellyadi hospital with the help of locals. Later, Lavanya was taken to Puttur by her family members and from there got admitted to a hospital at Surathkal.
Lavanya and Rakshitha were very close friends and were working for the same organization. Rakshitha had joined work just a year and half ago. It is not known whether both committed suicide or died of any other reason.
Rakshitha is survived by parents, elder sister and elder brother, while Lavanya is survived by parents, elder brother and younger brother.
Dharmasthala police are investigating further.
