Udupi, Apr 6: Krishnamurthy Acharya, a ticket aspirant for the Congress party in the Udupi assembly constituency, has resigned from the party's primary membership. The announcement was made on Thursday, April 06.
In a letter addressed to the district Congress president, Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Krishnamurthy cited personal reasons for his resignation, and hinted at the possibility of contesting the upcoming elections independently.
Later that day, Krishnamurthy held a meeting with his supporters at Hotel Mathura. He expressed his disappointment with the party's decision, saying that he had been a dedicated member of the Congress for two decades, and that his name had been on the final list of candidates. He criticized the selection process, alleging that an unknown candidate had been given the ticket. Krishnamurthy also claimed that he had been denied the position of block Congress president three times and district Congress president twice. He accused Pramod Madhwaraj of being selfish and responsible for the current situation.
Krishnamurthy's resignation is likely to have an impact on the Congress party's election strategy in Udupi.
