Bengaluru, Apr 1: Social media is abuzz with people seeing the act of Sharanu Salagar, BJP MLA from Basavakalyan constituency of Bidar, as disrespectful and insulting to Lord Ram as he stepped on his statue to garland the same on the occasion of Ram Navami.
Many devotees felt offended as they saw Salagar posing for pictures while standing on the statue. Congress took the opportunity to slam BJP and questioned its stand on Hindutva and Lord Ram posting the video on social media of its party MLA standing on the statue of Lord Ram.
Congress also questioned the claim of BJP leaders as the proponents of Hindutva and cited examples where the BJP MLAs have insulted Gods and Goddesses of Hindu religion. In its tweet Karnataka Congress said that Murugesh Nirani insulted Goddesses, C T Ravi went to temple after consuming meat, R Ashok insulted Bhoota Kola and Jnanendra Araga spoke lowly about Guliga Daiva.
On his part Salagar said that he never meant to insult Lord Ram and went on the statue to satisfy the demand of his party workers.
The act of Salagar has become a blow to the state BJP as it is fighting hard to make a comeback given the allegations of 40% commission on government projects and also rampant corruption at all levels.
