Udupi, Mar 31: Prices of vegetables in the market is seeing ups and downs due to summer. While prices of some have come down, others have skyrocketed.
The price of green peas which was at Rs 90 last week has zoomed to Rs 120 this week. Price of beans has gone up from Rs 80 to 90.
The prices of tomato and onion have come down. Tomato is now available for Rs 30 down from Rs 20. Onion price has stabilised at Rs 30. Carrot is stable since a month and is available for Rs 30.
Okra is sold at Rs 55, cabbage Rs 20, cauliflower Rs 40, potato Rs 25, beetroot Rs 30, pumpkin Rs 30, cucumber Rs 20 aubergine Rs 25, Capsicum Rs 70 and gherkins Rs 70.
The prices of leafy vegetables have gone up. Spinach is sold at Rs 15 per stack, while red spinach is sold at Rs 12, bay leaves Rs 12, coriander leaves at Rs 6.
Prices of fruits have shot up due to summer. Watermelon and tender coconut are in high demand. As the fruits are used for making juice, their prices have gone up. Watermelon is now available at a price of Rs 25 up from Rs 20, while Papaya has risen to Rs 50 from Rs 45 earlier.
Banana is available at a price of Rs 85 to 90, while apple is sold between Rs 200 to 250, Musambi Rs 100, orange Rs 70, Chiku Rs 70, pomegranate Rs 200, green grapes Rs 70 and black grapes at Rs 120.
The price of chicken has shot up slightly. With skin it is sold for Rs 210 per kilo while without skin it is available for Rs 230. Last week the rates were Rs 190 and 210 respectively. Price of mutton has shot up from Rs 700 to Rs 800 per kilo.
