Moodbidri, Jun 26: A scholarship distribution programme for students was held on Saturday June 25 at the Church Hall of St Ignatius Loyola Church, Palladka.
A sum of Rs 46,500 was distributed among 27 students pursuing high school and pre-university education. The scholarship was sponsored by Benedicta Charitable Trust pertaining to the donor family of Henry A D'Souza, residing in St Anne's Ward of Palladka Parish.
Parish pastoral parishat vice-president Andrew D’Souza in his welcome address called upon the parents to make the best use of the scholarship money and advised them to be vigilant about their children’s activities and encourage them to perform better.
He also urged parents must ensure that children do not have excessive exposure to cell phones and internet and should also schedule time for watching television.
Parish priest Fr Gilbert D'Souza in his presidential address compared the student-parent-teacher relationship to three wheels of a single chariot which move in sync with each other. He also compared the donors to jasmine and said it never retains its fragrance for itself but spreads it to others. The trust in the same manner is reaching out to help students, and reduce the financial burden on parents, he added.
Donor representative Hilar D'Souza presented a detailed account of the purpose and members of the trust its past endeavors, right from its formation in the year 2008. He also facilitated the distribution by bringing together beneficiaries and their parents.
Mary D'Souza, Nakkre, a family member of the trust was the guest of honour. Trust committee members Andrew D'Souza, parish pastoral parishat vice-president, Victor A D'Souza and secretary of parish pastoral parishat and Benedicta Dantis, an activist of the parish were also present.
