Mangalore, Jun 26: The district sessions court has rewarded lifetime imprisonment to a man accused of murdering his second wife and throwing her dead body into a river.
P M Isubu Moilar (48), a resident of Saleem Compound of Tharikambla in Porkody near Bajpe committed the murder seven years ago. Isubu doubted his second wife Mariyamma (35) of infidelity, and on the evening of September 7, 2004, on the pretext of taking her to a mosque in Gurpur, he took her to Gurpur river near Pejavar and strangled her. Later he removed her clothes and threw her dead body into the river.
Five days later, her dead body was found and a case was registered in Bajpe police station. The then Panambur circle inspector P Kodandarama investigated the case and filed a charge sheet in the court. Dharmendra, who was the Bajpe SI then, registered a case.
At the time of the murder, the couple had a 9-year-old daughter.
On Saturday H R Deshpande, judge of district session court in Mangalore passed the verdict. The judgement stated that the accused has been rewarded with life imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 10,000 for the murder, and two years of punishment and Rs 10,000 as penalty for trying to destroy evidence by throwing her dead body into the river.
Public prosecutor M V Bhat Panne argued in favour of prosecution.
