Kundapur, March 29: One person died and eight others suffered grievous injuries as a private bus lost control and toppled into a roadside drain.
This incident happened on the slopes of Kollur Halkal junction, Kollur police station limits on Wednesday morning.
The deceased passenger was Basavaraj (22), son of Shirahatii, Challakere taluk resident Rudrappa. The critically injured passengers were identified as Rangappa, Girish, Manoj Kumar, Mallesh, Devendra, Halaswamy, Gurunath and Master Abhijith.
The Durgamba bus was carrying between 35 to 40 passengers and was plying from Challakere to Mangaluru. It lost control in the wee hours on Wednesday at Kollur Halkal slopes and fell into a drainage gorge.
Basavaraj died on the way to the hospital. His mortal remains were kept at Kundapura taluk government hospital morgue.
The seriously injured were admitted to Kundapura government hospital, Adarsh hospital and Manipal KMC hospital. A case in this connection was registered at Kollur police station.
