Mangalore, Jun 25: The personnel of Barke police station in the city have arrested two persons accused of stealing motor bikes and using them after changing their number plates. The arrested men have been identified as Hajeem (20), a resident of Colonel Garden in Bokkapatna, and Ahmed Sherwan (19) from Nandigudde here.
A Hero Honda Passion motor bike, and a Hero Honda Spendour motor bike, totally valued at ` 85,000,
were recovered from their possession. The number plates of both these two-wheelers had been found to
have been replaced with fake ones.
The policemen, who were checking vehicles passing by the road at Mathadakani in the city on Friday June 24 morning, observed that a motor bike Hajeem was riding, had a fake number plate. During questioning, they realized that he was a motor bike thief. The bike he was riding had been stolen from Hosabettu, and it was sold to Ahmed Sherwan, working in a mutton stall in Kudroli Alake. The policemen recovered another motor bike stolen from Kallapu within Ullal police station limits, from their possession.
The modus operandi employed by the duo was to look for motor bikes parked by the roadsides at night,
break their locks, and use them after changing their number plates. The accused were presented in a court here later.
Investigation has been taken up by Barke station house officer, Poovappa, under the guidance of Bunder station inspector, Vinay A Gaonkar.
