Bantwal, Jun 25: The policemen caught two persons red-handed even as they were about to flee after stealing goods from a cloth shop on the night of Thursday June 23.
The policemen on beat observed that a person, who was standing near the bus stand at B C Road, was behaving in a suspicious manner. They took him into custody for questioning. He has been identified as Illyas Kukkaje (24) from Kukkaje village. Even as they were questioning him, the person received a call from another person, informing that packing had been completed, and inviting him to pick the goods.
The police swung into action and arrested Mohammed Asif (29) from Kukkaje, who had entered Safal Textiles here by using a duplicate key, and had packed goods stolen from there. Asif had been working in this shop since some time, and had stopped working there some days back. Illyas was stationed on the road by Asif to keep a vigil and alert Asif about any adverse developments.
The police suspect that Asif was involved with a number of thefts in the past. The local police have registered a case, based on a complaint filed by Abdul Razack, owner of the cloth shop.
