Mangaluru, Mar 24: MLA Vedavyas Kamath began a war room at his office in order to resolve the garbage issue under the limits of Mangaluru south legislative constituency.
Kamath, in a newspaper publication, said that garbage will be cleared if the public calls the war room number and informs the same.
MLA Kamath tried to convince the striking civic workers. But no positive response is given by the labourers. They said that they will begin working if the strike is withdrawn state-wide. Now temporary vehicles are arranged to collect garbage. Around 75 to 80 drivers are doing the garbage collection work now. Still 30 to 40 drivers are required. Kamath has asked interested drivers to contact his office.
Vehicle drivers are nominated on the basis of wards. Mobile phone numbers of concerned officers and supervisors are also provided. As the labourers are new, they are not aware of the wards. So in some wards, garbage collection is not smooth. Things are being sorted out according to Kamath.
Kamath said, “If any issue with regards to garbage collection is noticed by the public, it will be sorted out from our war room. In another three to four days, the garbage handling issue will be resolved.
“Alternatives were sought with opposition parties to resolve the issue. We also put forward the need for vehicles and labourers. If cooperation was given by the opposition parties, the issue would have been resolved quickly. Opposition political parties should give up criticising BJP and provide vehicle drivers,” stated the MLA in the publication.
The war room numbers are 8904078297 and 8197270222 and can be contacted from 9 am to 5 pm.
