Udupi: Court sentences thief of valuables in housebreak to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment

Udupi, Mar 23: The chief CJ and CJM court has sentenced an accused of breaking into a house and stealing jewellery from there to ten years of rigorous imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.

Sukhesh Naik, the accused had broken into the house of Satyanarayana Hegde, situated at Kodankoor Saibaba Cross road, Puttur grama, Udupi at night on June 29, 2022 and stole gold jewellery, cash and silver medals from there. Udupi city police inspector had registered a case and submitted a chargesheet to the court in this connection.

As the guilt of the accused was proved, Shakuntala, the judge of C J and C J M court in the city, sentenced Sukhesh Naik to five years of rigorous imprisonment under IPC Sections 457 and a fine of Rs 5,000 fine besides another five years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 380 and another fine of Rs 5,000.

The convict will have to undergo a year’s ordinary imprisonment if he fails to pay the fine.
