Bantwal, Mar 23: As the end of March approaches, the scarcity of water is becoming acute in the taluk. Gram panchayats are struggling to supply drinking water, and there are fears that the drought experienced in 2019 may recur, causing headaches for the gram panchayat administration and officers.

Experts say that the problem will only be solved if it rains early. The water levels in Netravati and Falguni rivers have decreased, exacerbating the situation.

The irrigation projects for drinking water in the taluk have not been very successful. Though water pipes have reached houses under the Jal Jeevan Mission, water has not reached some other houses, as they are not yet connected. Most of the dams are empty.

MLA Rajesh Naik has been listening to the grievances of the people, and he has solved the water problems in Kallige, Amtadi, Kukkippadi, and other villages.

The MLA has called a special meeting on March 25 to discuss the water issues in the presence of the zilla panchayat chief executive.

The issue of water scarcity, with elections just two months away, has caused headaches for political parties. It will not be surprising if some political parties try to exploit the situation for their benefit.
