Mangaluru, Mar 20: the union government gave the go ahead to construct over pass at Nanthoor Junction on NH 66 on February 28, 2022. However, the work related to the overpass has not yet begun.
The plan for the overpass is ready. However, the dispute with regards to the land is still in the court. Even then, the tender process is done and time period is decided for the contractors to pay EMD. Work order will be released after the EMD date is over, according to project director of NHAI Linge Gowda.
One more overpass will be built near KPT junction at a cost of Rs 22 crore. Work order is already passed for the same. The process of obtaining license to cut the trees is going on as per the information given by Linge Gowda.
Chaos prevail with regards to working of signal lights. At one end, NHAI is assuring that they will begin work in a day or two. On the other, the signal system is not working. Police are confused whether Signal is going to begin working or not.
On March 18, two scooter borne people lost their lives at the Nanthoor junction. Many accidents have taken place at the junction for the past one year. Public has expressed rage over the failure in controlling traffic at the circle as well as the negligence of truck drivers.
