Udupi, Jun 21: Somi Shenoy (87), a native of Karkala, who was walking by the side of the national highway near Padubidri in the district, was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle on the evening of Monday June 20. She died on the spot. The vehicle however, sped away after the accident.

A report registered in Padubidri police station mentions that the vehicle in question was a Mahindra Xylo van, moving towards Mangalore. Initially, the involvement of another vehicle that was bound for Udupi was suspected, and it was intercepted by Kaup policemen. After questioning a senior government official who was the occupant of this vehicle, the policemen determined that this vehicle was not involved with the accident.

Shenoy was moving towards the house of her aunt in Hejmady from Karkala, when she lost her life. It is gathered that she has a son, but his whereabouts are not known since the last many years. The mortal remains were persevered in the mortuary of Padubidri primary health centre.

Sub-inspector of Padubidri station, Mahadeva Setty, and Kaup circle inspector of police, Cheluvaraju, are investigating the case.
