Udupi, Mar 18: Deputy commissioner (DC) M Kurma Rao informed that prior permission should be taken from local bodies or gram panchayats to display any banners in public place. Legal action will be taken against violators.
Presiding over the meeting at DC office at Manipal, Rao said, “Before displaying any sort of campaigning banners, hoardings or use of loud speakers, permission should be taken mandatorily as per the law by competent authority. The equipment and hoardings used must be removed once the time period for the same is over. Even prior permission should be sought for any meetings, programmes or processions.
“Every voter must make sure that his or her name is registered in the voters’ list. If the name is dropped, the same should be registered. BLOs and election agents should go through the voters’ list in coming week and bring any discrepancies to the notice of the election officer.
“Any shortage of necessary infrastructure in polling centres should be brought to the notice of election officer. This time there is a possibility of allowing voters above the age of 80 and specially-abled people to vote through post,” he said.
Zilla panchayat CEO Prasanna H, SP Akshay Machhindra, additional DC Veena, taluk election officers and representatives of various political parties were present.
