Puttur, Jun 18: A prolonged hearing relating the bail application moved by Dr Renuka Prasad, named as the fifth accused in the murder case relating to Prof A S Ramakrishna, administrative officer of K V G Medical College Sullia, was witnessed at the fast track sessions court here on Friday June 17. After listening to arguments put forth by both the sides, judge of the court, Shivashankare Gowda, deferred the judgment to June 22.
C H Hanumantharaya, advocate from Bangalore, who represented the accused, pointed out that the son of the murdered person and other eyewitnesses in the case as well as the wife of the deceased had never mentioned the name of Renuka Prasad in their statements made to the policemen. He felt that the policemen were not in order in naming Prasad as an accused in the case. He argued that the investigating officers had committed technical errors while furnishing the details of their investigation to the court, and sought bail to his client, Renuka Prasad.
On behalf of prosecution, special public prosecutor, Uday Shankar, expressed the apprehension that releasing of Prasad may enable him to threaten people connected with the case by using money and other influences, and destroy evidences. He requested the court not to grant bail to the applicant as the investigation had not yet been concluded.
A number of people had gathered at the court premises during the hearing in addition to advocates, as the case has kicked up lot of public interest.
