Bengaluru, Mar 8: The two-hour bandh call by the KPCC against the corruption of BJ-led Basavaraj Bommai government throughout the State on Thursday has been called off due to the Second PUC as well as well as examinations of schools and colleges due to request and pressure from the parents, KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar announced on Wednesday.
“We decided to withdraw the 2-hour token bandh call from 9 am to 11 am throughout the State against the BJP corruption after holding consultations with senior party leaders,’’ Shivakumar said.
The KPCC Chief said Congress leaders as well as parents have suggested that the bandh would inconvenience the students and the party respects their suggestions. “The future of students and their examinations are more important. We can always hold our protests,’’ he said.
Shivakumar, however, lashed out at the ruling BJP for claiming that they have strengthened the Lokayukta and asked: “If the BJP was so serious about strengthening Lokayukta, why did their government abolish the anti-corruption bureau as promised by the party in their election manifesto and take immediate steps to appoint Lokayukta? Why did the government wait till the High Court directed its abolition? The BJP is claiming credit for something that was done on the directions of High Court and not out of its will,’’ he said.
The KPCC Chief said the BJP is criticising the Congress promise of giving 200 units of free power to all domestic households when they failed to implement their electoral promise of giving free power to IP sets of farmers from 7 am to 10 am and waiving off Rs1 lakh farm loans.
To the Congress promise of giving Rs 2000 cash to all housewives every month, he said Bommai announced Rs 500 to BPL women per month and later increased it to Rs 1000 and the Chief Minister is now bragging that BJP’s Grahini Shakti is a game changer.
“All these gimmicks and empty promises will not fool the people. The corrupt BJP will be thrown out,’’ he declared.
BJP will not cross 65 seats, may even fall to 40
Shivakumar said the Congress party’s screening committee has finalised names of 75% of constituencies and the remaining names will be cleared soon.
The KPCC Chief predicted that the ruling BJP will not cross 65 seats and it will not be a surprise if the tally falls to a low of 40 seats. “People are fed up and disgusted with the corrupt BJP,’’ he said.
