Puttur: 'Kidnapped' Girl Found Abandoned at Bus Stand, Returned to Parents

Puttur, Jun 14 (Suddi Bidugade): A six-year-old girl who was allegedly kidnapped by unknown people was found abandoned here on Monday June 13. She was later returned to her parents, who are from Hassan.

The girl was alone at the bus stand, asking passerby about buses to take her back to Hassan. The locals informed the police who immediately arrived at the spot and took her to the police station.

On questioning, the girl, Manasa, revealed that she was near her school in Hassan when she was blindfolded by some persons and taken away in a car. The kidnappers seemed to have abandoned her at Puttur. Going by her narration, the police were puzzled by the kidnappers' actions, but suspect that it may have been a case of mistaken identity.

Her parents stay at Gopal Swamy layout in Hassan. Daughter of Timanna, a cook and Lalita, Manasa is a student of Holy Mountain English Medium School. She was found in her school uniform.

She claimed that her kidnappers did not harm her, and she had no idea who they were or why they took her away.

Luckily, she knew her parents' names and numbers and the police could reach them without any hassle. The relieved parents, who were worried at their daughter's sudden dissapearance, asked their relative in Puttur to take the girl under his care till they could reach Puttur. On Tuesday June 14, the girl was handed over to the parents.

However, later on further interrogation it was found that the girl had woven an imaginary tale about the kidnap attempt and had taken a train to Puttur on her own in a huff after a misunderstanding with her parents. She had travelled by train a couple of times with her parents, and did so again, all alone.
