Mangaluru: Providential escape for driver as aluminium strips enter running car

Mangaluru, Feb 23: A car driver had providential escape as the aluminium strips that were being transported in a pick-up vehicle entered the car at Nanthoor junction on Wednesday February 22.

The pick-up carrying aluminium strips was behind the car. Both vehicles were moving towards Pumpwell from KPT. When the car driver applied a sudden brake in Nanthoor Junction, the protruding strips from the pickup entered the car from the back windshield. However, they stuck the seat behind the driver.

The car was completely damaged in the process. A complaint of negligent driving is filed against the pick-up driver by traffic east police station.

    The million dollar question is how this overloaded pick up van passed numerous junctions without caught or noticed by traffic cops? Any accountability on public servants?

    Rule 93(8) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 No motor vehicle shall be loaded in such a manner that the load or any part thereof extends,- (i) laterally beyond the side of the body; (ii) to the front beyond the foremost part of the load body of the vehicle; (iii) to the rear beyond the rear most part of the vehicle; (iv) to a height beyond the limits specified in sub-rule(4): For reasons best known to the cops in Mangalore, they never stop vehicles carrying loads extending outside of the carriage. However, they are quick to snatch the key from two wheelers, which in itself is a violation of the rules, which stands to endanger the lives of the riders. The "checking" of the two wheelers are carried in a manner which makes no sense. Inspite of being able to check the details online, the cops insist on stopping vehicles and checking dl, insurance, rc physically. Should they spend half the time and energy in educating about the rules and regulations governing licensing and safe driving/riding habits, the roads in India would be much safer

    How many accidents per day? Everyday some accidents Today I see many accidents. When will these accidents end?? I am confused and feeling sad RESPECT TRAFFIC RULES and you can prevent many accidents. Luckily here no one was hurt The heavy vehicle carrying aluminum sheets should have followed proper regulations, Always follow proper regulations and accidents will not happen I am going crazy seeing the accidents that are taking place in our area Lets all take a pledge to follow traffic regulations

    This is not negligent driving, this is serious Safety issue because of which the driver might have lost his life. Hence the traffic police should stop the vehicles which carrying the items which are longer than the vehicle on the roof. Today the driver escaped unhurt, in case of any passengers behind there was no chance of their survival. In Mangalore people take all sorts of things in the two or 3 wheelers and cars. In any other country this is not permitted and police confiscate the vehicles and the people don't understand this might cause serious injuries or death. Hence this should be banned.

    The other day whilst I was riding on my motorbike from the Ajjarkad park towards Brahmagiri, a mattress flew out from a pickup truck loaded with mattresses right in front of me, narrowly missing me. I actually had to speed up to notify the stupid driver that a mattress had dropped off, dangerously missing me. The traffic dept is actually useless in Udupi, it consists of a bunch of Bijapuris and Bagalkot labour class cadets, who will simply stand near Airtel office near the City Bus Stand and chat on their mobiles, etc. at the most they will stop riders without a helmet. The dont bother to help pedestrians to cross, they dont bother to check on overloaded vehicles, motorbikes with three people, scooties overloaded with a load, pick up trucks loaded with a concrete mixing machine and as well as labourers stuffed inside, etc.These traffic youths must be actually supervised and taught what is their duty as traffic police. Most of the guys join the police force just for doing nothing at a job and getting a good salary. Next time I will post a video of these traffic cops doing nothing and busy on their cell phones. All vehicle owner/drivers/riders must be penalized heavily for: Talking on the cell phone and driving Smoking and driving Drunk driving. Stand outside a bar and nab all those drunkards Trip;e riding motorcycles Tempos loaded with concrete mixer and labourers Not properly fastened loads of plywood, aluminium, mattresses, whole tree logs, etc. Overloaded vehicles Rickshaws carrying long pipes strapped above and the list can go on

    This is common in this city. So much of negligence and allowing by the traffic police. There will be hue and cry for few days and routine will go on. So no surprise. Thank God the passenger in the car is safe. Can imagine what will be consequences. God is with him.

    Our police are illiterate regarding the danger these protruded metal pose to other road users and the general public. No red flag, nor any indication that the load is protruding from the vehicle and the police greet them with a broad smile.

    Aren't there police at the Nantoor junction to nab such vehicles were things protruding out and might effect the fellow users of the road. Police only intrested in nabbing two wheelers riders without helmet. There are so many vehicles which can be dangerous to others on the road do police nab them?

    Traffic police are only fit to check 2-wheelers. I pass by this route almost every day and I see hardly 1-2 or a maximum of 3 police will be controlling all the 5 approaching roads running here and there. Also, there is no coordination between this two police as to which way the traffic should be released. Both simultaneously release the traffic and look face to face as if nothing happened. Idi roadblock! Same in KPT. Trust me, when there are no police at all in that junction, there will be smooth movement of traffic. Just 100 metres away from Nantoor near westline signature or Gajalee near KPT, 5-6 policemen will block the road to check helmets/tints. 1-2 police to control traffic, 5-6 for begging. wah! And the worst part is Alto, 800 and swift are the only vehicles these police are capable of stopping. Audi, Mercedez, BMW hai toh free entry and exit. They don't even dare to stop these cars.

    This is unsafe load carried by the pick up driver and how can Mangalore City Traffic Police allow such blatant offences to carry on???... Car may have stopped due to danger in front... But the pick up guy should have maintained dead slow speed while knowing fully the potentially dangerous load that he was carrying....

    Stop and confiscate such errant vehicles... ..it is negligence on the part of traffic police that is responsible for this.only when a life is lost they react
