Sullia, Feb 12: Two youths, who got down into Payaswini river to swim, drowned near Dodderi on Saturday.
The deceased are identified as Jeetesh (19), son of Derla Narayana Patali, resident of Ariadka in Puttur and Praveen (19), son of Krishna Naika, resident of Ambatemoole of Paduvannoor village.
Six youths had arrived in a group for swimming. First one got down. As the spot was deep he was drowning. The other one who went to save him also followed suit.
Santhosh Ambatamoole, Satyananda Chandu Koodlu, Yuvaraja Ambatemoole, Nitish Ballikana, Jeetesh and Praveen had arrived by car at Sullia. They went to the house of their relative near the hanging bridge of Odabayi and went to Payaswini river to swim.
Local youths brought up the mortal remains of the drowned youths. All the youths were labourers employed for grass removal. As Amit Shah’s programme was in progress at Puttur on Saturday, they had taken leave from work and ventured out on recreation.
Sullia police visited the spot and have filed a case.
