Bangalore, Jun 4 (DHNS): The Karnataka Forest department and the State Biodiversity Board have announced the State Environment Award to individuals and institutions that have rendered yeoman service in the field of environment protection and conservation, which are presented every year on World Environment Day.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh. This year the award will be presented to three individuals and three institutions at the Jnanajyoti auditorium at 10.30 am on Sunday. Before the award ceremony, an environment rally will be held from Mahatma Gandhi Statue to the auditorium via Kasturba Road, Hudson Circle, Nrupatunga Road and K R Circle.
T-shirts to be distributed
The Karnataka Environment Laboratories Association will distribute T-shirts and caps to all participants. The individual awardees for 2010-11 are Nandidurga Balugowda from Bangalore; Gangadharendra Saraswati Swami of Swarnavalli Mutt in Uttara Kannada and N J Devaraj Reddy from Chitradurga.
Institutions receiving the award are: Pilikula Nisargadhama Society in Mangalore; Paryavarani in Belgaum and Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology.
Karnataka Biodiversity Board is presenting its 2010-11 awards to A P Chandrashekhar from Puttur in Dakshina Kannada; Dr Raghavendranath Aital from Udupi; Kadamba Marketing Souharda Cooperative Society in Sirsi; S V Kalmat from Humnabad in Bidar; Sarojamma from Bhadravati in Shimoga and Syed Ghanikhan from Malavalli in Mandya.
