Beltangady, Jan 8: The Cubbon Park police station team which had arrived at Charmadi Ghat from Bengaluru with two of the accused, in order to find the mortal remains of H Sharath have called off the search.
Sharath, a resident of Bengaluru, was murdered over a financial dispute nine months ago.
During interrogation, the 10 accused, including the son of an influential leader of Chikkaballapur, had confessed that they had killed Sharath and thrown his body in the Charmadi Ghat area. Based on the statement of the accused, the Cubbon Park police had conducted a search operation for the past three days at Banakal, Charmadi, Ujire and Beltangady. Many locals too had helped the police in the operation.
The accused had said that they had disposed the body from near one of the milestones. There are many milestones on the ghat. Though the police searched in the valley corresponding to every milestone on the stretch, they could not trace the skeleton. It is suspected that the mortal remains of the deceased must have been washed away during rains or the accused are misleading the police to hide the fact.
As the police have to produce the accused in the court on January 6, they have stopped the search operation temporarily. Cubbon Park police SI Chaitanya, ASI Ashwini, CCB Nandish and seven other police personnel were involved in the operation.
