Mangaluru/Udupi, Jan 3: Covishield vaccine is in short supply throughout Karnataka. More than 80% eligible people of Dakshina Kannada are yet to get the vaccine.
Those who have taken Covishield as the first dose of vaccine, have to take second and booster dose of Covishield only. However, there is no stock of Covishield in the district at present. As a result of this public is unable to get second and booster doses of Covishield even though the time is already over.
The health department officials say that Covishield is out of stock throughout the state and the new stock will arrive soon.
In the district of Udupi also Covishield vaccine is not in stock. Once the same arrives, the public will be informed.
The health department of Dakshina Kannada is planning to hold vaccine campaign once again in the wake of the rising cases of Covid variant in high risk countries. A meeting in this connection will be held under the president ship of Dr Kumar, CEO of zilla panchayat, on Tuesday.
In Udupi, precautionary Covaxin vaccine will be administered on January 4 in all government hospitals. Those who have completed 28 days after taking the first dose of Covaxin are eligible to take the second dose. Those who have completed six months after taking second dose of Covaxin are eligible to take the booster dose from the nearest government hospital.
