Bantwal, Jan 1: The town police have arrested a thief, who stole arecanut produce that was put out for drying in the farmland of a person.
According to the complaint filed by Ivar Toras, he had put out about 100 to 120 kg of the arecanut produce for drying in his farm land on December 24. When he went to collect it on December 29 at 6.30 pm, the produce was found missing there. He promptly registered a complaint with Bantwal town police station.
Bantwal town police tracked down the culprit as per the directive of SP and ASP of Dakshina Kannada district and arrested the accused Manjunath Nagaraj Bhovi, son of Nagaraj Bhovi, a resident of Kasekodi Mane, Balthila village of the taluk and recovered 105 kg of the arecanut produce and a scooter which he had used in the act besides some cash.
The arrested accused was involved in a number of theft cases under the limits of Konaje, Ullal police stations of Mangaluru and Ankola, Karwar besides Honnavar police station limits of Uttara Kannada district. He was produced in court and sent to judicial custody as per the court's order.
